different access options When people consider improving access to their organisations they tend to think of ramps for wheelchair access.  While this is one consideration only 5% of disabled people use wheelchairs.  There are a wide range of impairments that have different (and often simple) access requirements.

We offer a number of core training modules.  These modules centre around Disability Equality and The Disability Discrimination Act.

The lead trainer for these courses is Brian O'Shea

1.  Disability Equality Training (One-day).
This course is appropriate for all levels of the organisation and aims to empower participants to deal confidently and effectively with disabled people.  It introduces disability as a social, rather than a medical issue -- comparable with race & the gender equality issues.  It also seeks to break down the barriers nondisabled people encounter when dealing with disabled people, such as appropriate language & etiquette. more details

2.  Disability Discrimination Act.
We have a range of modules addressing the DDA.  These include:
Executive Overview (two hours). more details
Management Introduction (half day). more details
Employment Workshop (one-day). more details
Goods & Services Workshop (one-day). more details
These modules all aimed to empower organisations to comply with both letter and the spirit of the DDA.

3.  Equality Duty Training.
Statutory organisations are required to have Disability Equality Schemes in place by December 2006.  We offer workshops to help organisations develop their scheme.  The nature of the workshop will depend on where the organisation is currently and what still needs to be done.

4. Independent Living Training.
The prospect of living independently with Personal Assistants/Carers can be quite daunting for disabled people.  We offer a range of training & coaching opportunities to empower individual disabled people to take control of their personal circumstances. This training is offered in groups or on an individual 1-to-1 basis.

5.  Bespoke Training.
We would be delighted to discuss any specific training requirements you have and develop courses to address those specific requirements.

6.  Access Auditing.
We have trained access auditors who can assess the physical accessibility of your organisation.  These auditors are members of the National Register of Access Auditors.
